What Will Happen To The Simpsons World App Disney+

The Simpsons fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief over the incorrect viewing formats on Disney+.

The most ardent fans of the history-making animated comedy series have long had a huge gripe about streaming viewing of the show because the first 19-and-a-half seasons weren't being presented in their original 4:3 aspect ratio.

However, this all changed on Thursday (May 28), when Disney+ restored those episodes to their original broadcast versions. Fans now have the option to toggle between watching the correct aspect ratio, or the incorrect 16:9 versions previously made available on streaming.

"To support both the original 4:3 aspect ratio and the 16:9 versions of The Simpsons, we needed to challenge prior assumptions and rethink how content for streaming is packaged and delivered," Disney's vice president of media products, Joe Rice, has explained in a detailed blog post.

"We introduced a new Disney+ app feature today that not only gives fans a choice in video viewing formats, but also opens up a number of exciting opportunities for novel ways of presenting content in the future

Six weeks after Disney first announced it was working to remedy the issue for its own service, The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean initially confirmed that a fix was rolling out across all of the show's streaming options.

"The most important tweet I can make: 4:3 available on Simpsons World! Seasons 1-7 now, rest soon thx FXX," he tweeted on Wednesday (May 20).

"The even more important most important tweet I can make! As always you have been heard! @theSimpsons episodes will be available in their original 4:3 aspect ratio on #DisneyPlus beginning 5/28."

Beginning Thursday (May 28), Simpsons fans were finally be able to watch all of their favourite episodes in the exact format they were originally broadcast back in the day!

Disney+ is celebrating this long-awaited development by adding the Academy Award-nominated Simpsons short film The Longest Daycare on Friday, May 29 as well.

It's definitely a very good time to be a Disney+ subscriber for Simpsons fans, as the all-new Maggie-centric film Playdate with Destiny arrived for users last month.
